I just picked up the PC version of this game and my favourite thing in this game is FP-ing to see if someone is new, and if they are, showing them all the murals and glyphs that I know, which is not all of them so they can find the others on their own. One stranger would always long chirp at me when I fell. I'm not sure if they were trying to get me to stop faceplanting or whether they thought something was wrong and that chirping would help. It was fun. I remember playing this game 8 years ago on my ps3, so when I heard it was coming onto steam I snapped it up when I could, now I just try to help new strangers, who maybe haven't played before.

I love seeing this video in comparison to thatgamecompany's Journey-esque mobile game, Sky: Children of the Light. It's extremely similar to Journey, albeit a more fleshed out and admittedly a bit more commercial. You can call to people, solve puzzles with them, friend them and hold hands; you can even upgrade an interactive tree that allows you to hug or high-five a friend. thatgamecompany knows that games like these are one of the few things keeping us sane during a giant failing firework of a year, and it's connected so many people. And it's beautiful.

well this is a rather beautiful analogy about companionship. Well played sir..... Shame the beauty was shattered by the shit advert directly after it. I actually felt some hope for a brief moment after watching this only for it to be royally fucked by the rampant consumerism that plagues youtube.... AND yes. I would love to subscribe to get rid of the adds. But I still have an XBOX 360 as that's all I can afford to run in these beleaguered times. let alone the work I have to do to feed my family, which gives me no time for gaming, or the escapism it provides. Keep doing what you guys are doing. It gives a window into the enjoyment. Moments that those of us that can neither afford the cost or time to do. Good shit. And please pass that on to the entire escapist team, who really do keep me smiling whilst i sit here and do my paperwork on the other screen... x

That game company designed journey to be a endless experience they during a UK videogames festival gamecity that "we designed journey in a way that the experience will still be revivent and change over time ,we though about what the games will be like in 2, 5 10 even 50 yearstike when the game will be barron and empty. We've though about this allot and we've want it to be a timeless ever evolving experience"

this hit me way harder than I thought it would especially when you were describing the part where the cold is getting the better of you it's funny how we sometimes look at companionship as a burden telling ourselves we don't want it and in a sense we are right we don't want it we NEED it and life has a funny way of reminding us of that from time to time kind of like this video did for me

I've got a friend on my psn since back in the ps3 days when this came out. We beat the game together and added each other to this day we haven't spoken words but instead we send each other pictures of games we r playing and see if the other wants to join. I remember in dark souls 2 a boss was giving me trouble so I sent a picture of me outside the boss fog with the prostrate emote and they came to help. I sure don't like how you have to pay a subscription fee for access to online multiplayer interaction on the PS4. It really kills the whole thing that a lot of games on the PS3 had going for it where multiplayer dipped in and out of single player, because now you gotta pay to have that magic

I remember being lost and confused and afraid in my first climb before a much more experienced played went up to me, spinning and chirping, I didn't know what to do so I followed them all the way to the very end of the game. I did my best to try and somehow protect them from the monsters but they always came back to drag my idiot self back to safety. At the very very end of the game, just before we had to go our separate ways, I realised that they were chirping in pattern Morse code! We had found a way of communicating and she talked about how she had came back to the game because she was contemplating suicide, but somehow the experience had made her reconsider. It was so insane to me that just by floating about in this game I'd found and managed helped her. I love you Dee, I'm so so lucky that by pure chance, we climbed that mountain together.

I played through this game earlier this year when it was free briefly on PS4. I had recently moved to a new city before losing my job due to covid and had been in lockdown for a few weeks at that point. I went into the game totally blind and found a found another player very quickly. Upon completing the game, my main thought was "That really was friendship". We didn't share a single word and I have no idea who the person was, but it was the most genuine feeling companionship I had experienced for months. Two people who wanted nothing but to stick together and see the other succeed. It was, without a doubt, one of the most powerful experiences I have ever had playing a video game.

This game.... THIS GAME.... This video perfectly encapsulates my experience playing Journey all the way back on the PS3. The stranger following you the whole way through the game, turning what would otherwise be a lonely experience into something magical. No way to communicate with one another aside from some chirps, and yet you both perfectly form an understanding of what you want to do, where you want to go, and at what pace you'll do it at. It was simply extraordinary playing this game along with somebody else. It remains to this day not just my favourite multiplayer experience, but quite possibly one of the best and most meaningful experiences with any medium.

One of my most memorable gaming moments came from playing Journey a few years ago. I played through the entire game with a stranger and when we got to the end they drew a heart in the snow with their character's footprints, we chirped a few times back and forth to acknowledge each other, and then we walked through to the ending together to sadly never see each other again.

I just did this in a playthrough, me and a stranger just sat at the ending cliff after paradise, drawing hearts to eachother and spamming the short chirp, we kept chirping all along that last ending stretch. I had to wait 10 years to play Journey, so I could it wait for one more year. I played it close to release. Sometimes guided by knowing people. But for the the last 4 chapters, I was with a stranger like me. When a guardian hit him, I immediatly ran back to him for help. I lost most of my scarf getting blown off the wall section. When we slowed down loosing sight of our goal, I assumed we failed. We made too many mistakes climbing the mountain so with 2010s game logic in my mind I thought the game would hard reset our progression. I felt so sad that we didn't make it. Imagine the realization that this game is from the 2000s.

I once met a very new player in the temple, not too long ago. They struggled to glide and had barely a scrap of a scarf left from running into the guardians in the caves. I showed them where the scarf pieces were and walked with them up the mountain. I remember the windy stairs. They got so stuck, they just couldn't get the timing down. I stayed with them, chirping to signal when the wind would stop. When we finally got to the top of the stairs we were both so excited! We didn't stop chirping until we got to the mountains peak. I don't know who they were, or what happened to them, but it will be a long time before I forget standing at their back, cheering them up the stairs, and standing shoulder to shoulder as we walked into the light.

This game has meant so much to me over the last years. One of my greatest pleasures is convincing people to do a playthrough blind on a random afternoon. My most memorable climb though was years ago, after suffering a hard breakup. Late one sleepless night I just wanted to exist and let my thoughts wonder I turned on the game to sit in silence within the sands by the bridge. Watching people phase in and out of the area. I was there for a solid half an hour until someone came up and just would not leave me alone. They meandered around me for minutes at a time, chirping and fluttering and carrying on. My silence broken, I figured I'd start trudging along. Down the slopes, into the darkness, up the tower, I think I didnt go a second without my scarf glowing by their constant, chatty nature buried into my scarf. Even when my apathy kept me from running from the armored enemies, they made sure to find me and push me on. By the end it was nearing 5 am, we did a last spin around each other before heading up to the final moments of the game. I let the credits roll and just sat at the end screen until a moment later when a messaged popped thanking me. Entirely in spanish. I know nothing of the language, but with a quick google I reciprocated the thanks and finally got some rest.

I assume you know that it's also by the same creators. That being said, Sky is essentially Journey if it was more of an MMO with payment models and cosmetics, with the ability to freely chat and make friends. Beautiful visuals, beautiful music, friendly atmosphere, Moments of peace and moments of hardship. It's another work of art, this time focusing more on teamwork, friendship and community, rather than the individuals experience throughout their journey through life. It's essentially Journey from the perspective of a collective, rather than that of an individual. Apologies if you already thought this haha, I just love thatgamecompany's games a lot and I love to ramble about how great they are.

Very similar to that one Samurai Jack episode, "Jack and the Monks", from wandering through desolate areas to climbing a mountain with the overwhelming struggle of achieving such a goal. Reinvigorated by the whole experience at the end. But it was more about the goal, it's about the Journey. And yes, at my second playthrough, I played with someone the whole way through. @Marty Sliva Hey, Marty, I was wondering where this footage was from. Was this from the PS4, Epic Store, or Steam? I had to return Steam's version because it had come out with a broken soundtrack (so integral to the experience). This was in June, but Steam's forums clarified the port had been like this since its 1st year at Epic.
